Mississipi Delta Blues Festival

Excerpt from: "Delta Blues Festival 1987" by Bill Barlow

Living Blues, Jan/Feb 1988, p 62

A lull in the action is provided by John Campbell, an unknown white acoustic guitarist who plays and sings old country blues. There is nothing distinctive about his style or repertoire. The big question is why he was put on the show in the first place. The backstage grapevine says it's because he has something to do with Benson & Hedges.

Speakeasy - Opening for Gatemouth Brown

Excerpt from: "Blues Letters - New York" by Helen Doob Lazar

Living Blues, May/June 1988, p 2

Speakeasy featured Gatemouth Brown on Nov. 6. John Campbell opened with his Texas style acoustic blues. The night was a wonderful amalgam of blues styles and textures.
