Abilene Cafe - Opening for Jimmy Rogers

Excerpt from: "Blues Letters - New York" by Helen Doob Lazar

Living Blues, No. 74, 1987, p 4

Opening for Rogers (Sept 5 & 6) and also appearing on September 26 and 27 was a fine guitarist, John Campbell. He plays six and twelve string, has a wonderful resonant voice and a huge repertoire of Delta Blues classics. He has played the Abilene several times now and I have yet to hear him repeat a song.

Abilene Cafe - Opening for Johnny Littlejohn

Excerpt from: "Blues Letters - New York" by Helen Doob Lazar

Living Blues, No. 74, 1987, p 5

John Campbell opened for Littlejohn on both nights. His Texas accent and fingerpicking expertise are always well received and he has an amazingly varied repertoire from Charley Patton to original composition.

Abilene Cafe - Opening for Hubert Sumlin and Johnny Littlejohn

Excerpt from: "Blues Letters - New York" by Helen Doob Lazar

Living Blues, No. 75, 1987, p 5

November and December were crammed full of great blues in New York. The Abiliene Cafe started off the holiday season with a triple header: Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Littlejohn, and John Campbell all on the same night. It was an inventive booking concept that worked well.
